DAVID Systems' leading media production suite extended with Microsoft SharePoint enterprise collaboration

[Munich, April 8, 2009] At the National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) annual convention in Las Vegas April 20 - 23, DAVID Systems will introduce the integration of its Content Management System - DigaSystem - with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. The integrated solution enables Web-based content sharing and provides a wide range of content management features such as searching, retrieving and editing media assets in both browse and hi-res quality, even without being connected to the production system. Connecting departments, customers, freelancers, and on-site journalists through the combined functionality of SharePoint and the DigaSystem product line will maximize team efficiency and significantly reduce operating costs.

The integration with SharePoint supports existing SharePoint customers in search of media production functionality as well as DAVID Systems customers that are looking to connect their production departments with other parts of the organization or external partners. The SharePoint integration enables journalists, whether on site or in remote correspondent offices, to view or edit material from almost any location in the world where an Internet connection is available. Content in editorial intranets can easily be made accessible to users normally not connected to the production environment.

"DAVID Systems decision to integrate their professional audio and video tools with SharePoint is an excellent example of how developers of broadcast solutions can leverage the Microsoft platform to deliver greater value to customers" stated Rainer A. Kellerhals, Global Media & Entertainment Solutions Lead at Microsoft Corporation. "It is also proof to the fact that broadcast technology and IT are converging. We look forward to working with partners like DAVID Systems on bringing together the best of both worlds and broadcast and IT."

"For our customers the integration with SharePoint offers a genuine added value by improving team efficiency and reducing operating costs - for the big networks operating worldwide as well as for small organizations working with freelancers or employees in home offices," explained Michael Wittmann, CTO of DAVID Systems.

Complementing the content management capabilities of DigaSystem, the integration offers comprehensive workflow and collaboration support. The solution provides SharePoint Web parts with Silverlight plug-ins to search through a table structure similar to DAVID Systems' database backend, thus offering a familiar working environment for both DigaSystem and SharePoint users. Once a file is selected, it can be viewed or edited with DAVID Systems' hi-res video editor, DigaCut MT. Because the integration supports video-centric workflows as well as metadata-focused operations, it is not limited to the broadcast industry and can be used by every other type of organization looking to handle media content.
