DAVID Systems Moves Media

Connecting people, locations and processes

Live event coverage relies upon seamless coordinated workflows. But a closer look at the integration of processes and systems often reveals an enormous breakdown in productivity. Most radio and television operations find that the flow of content creation is impeded because they depend upon several proprietary systems that are isolated from one another – even between different bureaus or the station and its team of correspondents.

But there is good news. DAVID Systems solutions build bridges between isolated systems. Integrated and automated production and distribution processes are much faster and more efficient. Your teams save valuable time adding immediacy and attention to your programs.

Integration

New possibilities practically applied

DAVID Systems is one of the first companies to identify the growing demand for integration of radio, television, and new media. Working in partnership with our broadcast customers, we developed a wide range of efficient software modules for distribution, integration and automation for the 21st century: DAVID Systems Moves Media.

Based upon standard IT protocols and independent data formats, information can be changed via every type of network (LAN, WAN, Internet) – including Metadata, of course. Whether point-to-point or point-to-multipoint, we offer more than simple data transport. New content submissions are automatically converted according to rules set by the administrator. File conversion can even be set to occur during the distribution process. And instead of simply receiving files, you can explicitly request them.

Using techniques such as these, DAVID Systems interconnects journalists, systems, and stations worldwide and creates a scalable basis for efficient workflows.

Replication

Transport – Integration – Automation

Do you have a centralized newsroom with local bureaus? A regional operation with a central play-out solution? An international station group with foreign correspondent offices? Are you a broadcaster with an external Webcast?
However your structures and networks may look, DAVID Systems Moves Media tools
bring ease and reliability to your acquisition, production and distribution processes. Our software solutions combine formerly isolated systems and automate the data and information exchange based on cost-efficient IT
and networking technologies.

Data exchange and conversion can be freely configured by the powerful administration tools of DAVID Systems Moves Media. This saves the trouble of manual configuration which is often time-consuming and precarious. Our goal is to keep your people focused on content creation and its distribution.

Proven solutions

Since 1997, the central news gathering and distribution system within the ARD network has been made possible by DAVID Systems Moves Media tools. All regional sites are exchanging their audio and video contributions via a high-capacity ATM network operated by the ARD switching point with data rates of 60 Mbps (audio) and 450 Mbps (video).

Mailbox IP

The Internet speeds you up

With Mailbox IP, DAVID Systems offers the ideal solution for flexible connections to correspondents and freelancers. Instead of inconvenient satellite feeds, your teams will use our Web client and the Internet to deliver their audio and video contributions.

To ensure the highest degree of process reliability – even in the most pressured situations – the receiving station configures the automatic processes. It specifies which formats the files have to be converted to as well as the kind of Metadata absolutely necessary for your CMS. In short, all contributions are automatically delivered in exactly the format that is required by the station.

Of course, maximum possible security is always of paramount concern to DAVID Systems Initially all files are stored on storage servers outside the firewall and without any safety arrangements. An active upload into your core system avoids security vulnerability and open ports. Automatic notification, forwarding and access rights can be conveniently configured.

Examples

Phononet – The central distribution system of music is operated by DAVID Systems Moves Media tools for the transfer of audio, video and graphic files to all ARD stations

Besides the connection between the SWR locations Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Mainz, DAVID Systems maintains a reliable content exchange with the foreign correspondent offices. Mailbox IP is the core application that the journalists use to send content to SWR’s news headquarters.

Exchanging audio and video files within the furthest reaches of Norway is a real challenge. The NRK headquarters in Oslo as well as the 24 regional sites trust in DAVID Systems solutions for delivery across multiple platforms, content production, and on-air play-out.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture covers news of interest to the American farmer. The exchange of content between the USDA’s main studio in Washington, D.C. and its field offices is realized by DAVID Systems solutions.
